Chesapeake Planetarium

The Chesapeake Planetarium was the first planetarium built by a public school system in the state of Virginia.  The funds were provided by the Chesapeake School Board through the National Defense Education Act (NDEA).

The original intent of the planetarium was to provide a teaching resource for the Chesapeake school system but it has since been opened to all interested parties.  Located in the Chesapeake Municipal Center, the planetarium hosts more than 50,000 visitors each year.   This year marked the 47th birthday for the historic facility.

The Chesapeake Planetarium is located in the Chesapeake Municipal Center and is attended by over 50,000 visitors each year.
